Many outpatient therapy clinics, like Cadence, provide services for children with concerns related to anxiety, mood, and behaviors problems. Few outpatient clinics treat youth with high acuity problems such as self-harm and thoughts of suicide, for which a treatment called Dialectical Behavior Therapy “DBT” is the frontrunner.
DBT was developed at the University of Washington by Dr. Marsha Linehan. Our Clinical Directors worked directly with Dr. Linehan as DBT was proven effective for treating adolescents with difficulties in emotion regulation. Cadence was one of the first and remains one of the largest comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy programs in the country. Clinical director Dan Finnegan now serves as the Vice President for the Linehan Board of Certification and trains our team of DBT therapists in the greater Seattle area.
"I've tried other programs, but nothing has worked."
"I’m told I have to ship my kid out of state for them to get better, but that terrifies me."
"I want the best possible care for my child, but I don't know where to start."
We know the mental health landscape is challenging to navigate and the stakes are high for parents seeking mental health care services for their children. At Cadence, we strongly believe that care should be delivered to the highest standards and with accountability.
Our child & adolescent psychologists implement therapies that have research backing with fidelity. For example, we underwent a rigorous, external review process to ensure that our DBT program was adherent to the highest level of clinical care, which ultimately earned Cadence recognition as one of about 20 programs in the country designated with DBT Linehan Board Certification.
Children can receive treatment while living at home, attending school, and living their lives while receiving services.
Families are part of the solution. We invite parents and caregivers to participate in treatment. This may include co-participation in group skills class, parent consultation sessions, or co-therapy.
We ask clients to complete forms to track progress in therapy. This allows us to keep the therapy process transparent and ourselves accountable.
