Q&A With Cinthia Benitez, PH. D.

Tell me about the Cadence culture

Maybe I’m living under a rock, but I’ve never worked at a place where people are so genuinely nice and helpful. Everyone is professional and non-judgmental, which is unusual … even for therapists!

Tell me about your professional growth at Cadence

We had a lot of supervision embedded into our schedule as fellows, but the support is flexible based on our individual needs and interests. And our Clinical Director, Dan, is graceful in delivering feedback: direct and honest in the service of us and our clients, but never harsh or critical.

Tell me about your experience with the teaching team

The teaching team is never out of ideas or suggestions when consulting. Everyone is very accessible and responsive with balanced feedback that is specific, nonjudgmental, and supportive.

What was your biggest fear in coming to Cadence

I considered a DBT program nearby my entire family in Florida, so it’s a testament to the strength of Cadence that I made the leap. But I was nervous. What if I move across the country and I’m not as great at my job as I hoped? Took me a bit to build confidence!

I love it. You’re 2 hours from Mt. Rainier. On my birthday I was a few feet from a glacier ... can’t do that in many places!

Q&A With Joe Morger, Psy. D.

Tell me about the Cadence culture

I got the sense from the moment I arrived at Cadence that they were invested in me being a happy employee and improving as a professional, not just there to see clients at cheaper rates.

This is certainly not a team of people that got their degree and coasted. I was actually surprised at how much I continued to learn, even on things I thought I had a mastery of. It wasn’t just about expanding to new areas of treatment, but also continuing to develop with my existing clients.

Dan Finnegan was the first person I met from Cadence and I knew he’d be a great person to work for. Very easy going and open.

What was your biggest fear in coming to Cadence

Being far away from my family and roots. I grew up in a small town in central Illinois and moved out here not knowing anyone.

My top priority in choosing a program was DBT training and living in a large US city. Seattle is a city where you can do a lot of things that don’t cost a lot of money (national parks, mountains, the water…it’s all available), but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that my compensation was competitive, even relative to other professions in Seattle.
